NBA Finals Predictions

By Pete, June 5, 2008 7:58 am

Finally. There’re only two teams left. Gone are the days of having at least one game a day everyday. Now we all must eagerly wait and see what happens next. While the Lakers steam rolled into the finals after beating up on the aging Spurs, the Celtics survived another series and (more importantly) found a way to win on the road.

So while this series pin two teams rich in history against each other, it’ll be interesting to see if it will turn into another classic battle that the NBA has seen in the 80s. I feel like the Celtics has been expected to get here all year long while the Lakers’ expectation only rose after the late trade giveaway that landed them Gasol. While I’m not sure if there’s a clear cut favorite here to win, I think the burden of expectation lies on the Celtics, so advantage Lakers.

Another advantage that goes to the Lakers is the NBA final’s 2-3-2 format. The Celtics has inconsistent on the road, so if the Lakers can manage to steal one of the first 2 games in Boston, the Celtics are going to be in big trouble.

The X-factor of this series is going to be Ray Allen for the Celtics and Lamar Odom for the Lakers. If Ray-Ray is ice cold, the Celtics are going to be in trouble. Lamar Odom creates match up nightmares for the Celtics. It’ll be interesting who they’ll assign to guard him since I’m assuming Pierce will guard Kobe.

My prediction?? I’m going have to go with a lot of the experts here on this one: Lakers in 6.

NBA Conference Finals Predictions

Wow. It’s the conference finals already. I must admit, this year’s playoffs have been pretty good. The drama was expected in the West, but the East was where I was really surprised that the series have been so competitive.

Anyways, I’ll start with the East. If the Celtics is going to win this and go to the finals, they’re going to have to win in Detroit. Chauncy & Co. are going to be well rested and ready to roll against the Celtics with came off of two series that went down to the wire. I think that the key will be the Hamilton/Allen match up. I’m going to go with the Celtics in 7 because I can’t see how the best road team in the regular season can continue on this disgusting road run.

Much to my demise, the Spurs are still alive. The Lakers are good, but if Duncan played the way he did yesterday, I’m not too sure if anyone can stop them. It’ll be interesting to see how the Lakers decide on what the do with Timmy. The Spurs are well battle tested coming off tough 1st and 2nd round opponents, so I’m going to go with the Spurs for once and say that they’ll win in 7.
