Street Wisdom from Ice-T

“I have a gymnasium philosophy. Everybody’s been in a gym. You look to the right, you see somebody in better shape. Look to your left, you see somebody who’s dying to be in your shape. So you have to be happy in your life and know you can always go either direction. It’s up to you.”

“There’s a hustler term for setbacks. They say, ‘It ain’t about the come up, it’s about the comeback.’ Anybody can come up, but can they come back? That’s where you get your stripes. So you gotta pull up your boots, get your sh– together, shake it off, and come back. Winners have to absorb losses. Setbacks are hard. If I’m bitchin’, I stop and take a good look at it, because I’m bitchin’ and ridin’ in a Bentley! Get your sh– right!”

“I think everybody’s held back by the same thing: insecurity. Insecurity causes all the problems in the world. A lot of people tell me, ‘I don’t know how to deal with rejection.’ Well, you’d better learn! Be willing to lose, becuase if you can take the loss, you can win. When things go wrong, on the street we say, ‘Charge it to the game, man.’ Because there will be prices to pay to move up in the game. Donald Trump has lost hundreds of millions of dollars. He’s made it, but he’s lost it. You have to charge some to the game.”
